DBT Teens Skills Group – Course Overview

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy that helps individuals manage intense emotions, reduce self-destructive behaviours, and build healthier relationships. It combines cognitive-behavioural strategies with mindfulness practices and is particularly effective for those experiencing emotional dysregulation, risk-taking behaviours, or interpersonal difficulties.

DBT Teens Skills Group is an online program designed for teens aged 13 to 17. The program includes  12 weekly 60-minute group sessions, focusing on practical DBT skills across four key modules:

  1. Distress Tolerance – Managing difficult situations without resorting to harmful behaviours
  2. Emotion Regulation – Understanding and managing intense emotions
  3. Interpersonal Effectiveness – Building stronger communication and relationship skills
  4. Mindfulness – Staying present and aware of thoughts and feelings

Each session introduces one to two new skills through interactive activities, group discussion, and real-life examples. Teens are encouraged to practise these skills between sessions through optional homework tasks.

Program Details:

  • Cost: $75 per session (total program cost: $900)
  • Format: Online group sessions (for ages 9–17)
  • Includes: Intake appointment + 12 weekly sessions
  • Start Date: Run by expressions of interest – the group will commence once a minimum of four participants have registered
  • Next Steps: Once the group is confirmed, participants will receive full details regarding start dates and payment information

This evidence-based program gives teens a supportive and structured space to develop lifelong coping strategies—all from the comfort of home.
